I’d be interested in learning how this system works. Are there two votes? A single transferable vote for first, second, etc. choice? What is known about the nominees?
It appears that a candidate must receive majority (i.e. 50%) of votes or a new round is held where the candidate with the least amount of votes is excluded.
This seems to include some such as Sarah Finch and Philip Giddings who are known to be sound.
However, one very discordant note is the election of Giles Goddard to the appointments committee for inter alia senior clergy and bishops. Goddard is involved in Inclusive Church and his latest little number is to host a conference of ‘Sea of Faith’ at his parish at St John’s Waterloo, a heretical organisation, which believes that God is no more than a human construct.
The election of Giles Goddard, a man who cannot even stand up for or perhaps even understand the faith he purports to minister in, to represent CofE clergy on this important body is disgraceful, but typical of the low calibre of some of the uneducated or badly educated clergy we have to put up with.
I need to correct #4 – Giles Goddard has been elected to the General Synod and Archbishops’ Council Appointments Committee as one of the three clergy members. I believe elections for 3 clergy and 3 lay members of the Crown Nominations Commission are still to be held. The late Dean Colin Slee was one of the clergy members of the CNC
